Primary Use

The primary use would be for keeping the students current on the events that are taking place in the world.

Fifth grade listening and viewing standards:
The students will:
1.  understand the appropriateness of various listening behaviors in different social situations. (example: plays, concerts, lectures, talking with friends)
6.  analyze media as information provider, entertainer, persuader, informer, and/or transmitter of culture.
9.  identify ways to determine the reliability of information. (example: research, support, proof)
11.  connect information with prior knowledge and experience for effective recall.

Description

The site is very helpful for the students to use when they are researching current events issues.  I also thought the daily lesson starters are a benefit for the student or the teacher.  At the end of the article, they list reading comprehension questions the students would be able to answer.  After the questions, it then leads into a specific curriculum and an activity you could complete with a group.

Comments

I would definitely use this site with small groups or individually.  The students could read the articles and complete the questions to check their comprehension.  The topics can range into the different curriculums.  The site is very user friendly.  One draw back is the site is not Bobby approved.
