Primary Use

The students will be using site for researching the areas of biomes, and they will be investigating the facts and information.  They will investigate, gather, sort, and present their information to the class.  They will be the experts in the field.  The research can be independent or as a group depending how they organize.

SD Grade Level Standard(s)

The standards that are meet are from the Fifth grade life science standards.

FIFTH GRADE LIFE SCIENCE STANDARDS
 Students will:
4.  invent classification systems that serve specific purposes.
7.  understand that special relationships enable some organisms to survive. (example: prairie, ocean, desert)
8.  describe how changes in habitat can harm and/or help the survival of organisms.
9.  describe biotic and abiotic characteristics of various ecosystems. (example: prairie, ocean, desert)
11.  recognize that changes in habitat may harm or help organisms. (example: irrigation, land drainage, erosion, earthquakes, fires)
12.  describe how natural events and/or human influences can affect survival of species
13.  analyze relationships among organisms in aquatic and terrestrial food chains. (example: producer, consumer, decomposer, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, predator-prey)

Description

The site is useful in the fashion that the information is available to the students in many different aspects.  On the top of the page, they are able to print out a biome calendar and also each biome consists of printable pages for each creature in that certain biome. They also include the world map of where the biomes are located.

Comments

With the use of this site, the students would investigate and research the topic of biomes.  Within their group the students will decide how the presentation is going to be presented.  The site is a super resource for them.  But unfortunately the site is not Bobby approved.
